No-exam life insurance
Who qualifies for fast-track underwriting, how it actually works, and what happens if you don't qualify.
Many carriers now offer expedited underwriting. For applicants within age and amount guidelines, they make decisions using your application, your pharmacy history, driving records and other data files instead of sending someone to do an exam. Some decisions arrive within 24 hours. Each quote in this tool tells you if an exam is needed, possibly needed, or not required for that product.
What it changes
Going without an exam doesn't mean skipping underwriting. Your answers get checked, and a policy issued on false information can be challenged for up to two years. If the carrier's records turn up questions, it may still ask for an exam or blood work—you can always decide at that point whether to continue.
Who tends to qualify
Usually people under around 60, applying for amounts within the carrier's expedited underwriting limit, with no serious health history and no tobacco use for a year or longer. If you've had recent doctor visits with blood work, some carriers will use those results instead of ordering new tests.
If an exam is required, it typically means a 20- to 30-minute session conducted by a paramedical technician at your home or office in the Clovis area—at no charge to you. For healthy applicants, exam results sometimes lead to a better rate classification, so the requirement isn't necessarily disadvantageous.
